A Secret Cannabis Club for Women
Shaina Kerrigan, co-founder of Molly Jones, found her way to cannabis in early 2018 after months of interrupted sleep from pregnancy and breastfeeding. When she first walked into a dispensary, it was a mostly male staff pointing her to products that were way too heavily dosed. It struck her that whole industry seemed catered to men who were regular users, not newcomers like her. She knew cannabis could be a game-changer for moms, but could see why they had no interest in trying to understand it. So she set out to do it for them.
Shaina paired up with a long-time friend, previous colleague, and fellow mom Kayti Sullivan to officially launch Molly Jones in June of 2018. They hosted Mom-to-Mom educational parties, similar to the Pampered Chef or Avon parties of the previous generation. Only, instead of selling tupperware, they were teaching Cannabis 101.
There was still a stigma back then so their secret cannabis club was affectionately referred to as ‘Book Club.’ What started out as a way to let moms in on something they thought was useful turned into sold-out parties every week and a wait list growing by the day. Moms came prepared with lists of questions about how cannabis could help transition them off of prescription drugs like Xanax, have better sex with their partner, or curb how much wine they were drinking.
A Trusted CBD Brand for the Modern Mom
Through the parties, Shaina and Kayti not only learned there was excitement around CBD, but that moms had a clear preference for how to take it: a beautifully packaged tasty edible that felt like a treat at the end of a long day.
From the start, Shaina and Kayti knew that quality was their foundation, so they painstakingly vetted over twenty CBD growers and manufacturers to find the best fit. They spent nine months developing their own proprietary gumdrop recipe and another two months perfecting the process and packaging. In May of 2019, the moms from Molly Jones officially debuted their high quality CBD gumdrops to rave reviews.
Having gotten their start with informational parties, Shaina and Kayti still strongly believe that education around cannabis is essential to a positive experience. That’s why they recently launched Bloom + Bliss, an educational arm to Molly Jones that shares perspectives, insights, and lessons on how modern moms can live a balanced life. Hint: cannabis helps.
